Amakhala is flanked to the north by Shamwari, to the south by the greater Addo National Park. Amakhala has 6000 hectares of pristine eco vegetation comprising of a blend of valley bushveld, wide savannah plains, mixed acacia-savannah woodland and spectacular elevations and river valleys. Amakhala is a diversity of fauna and flora and has 16km of bushmans river meandering through the reserve

Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture and today has six independently owned lodges.

Situated in Frontier country, Carnarvon Dale is an 1857 family farm on the banks of the bushmans river.  Farm style meals are usually taken in the main dining room.  Morning and late afternoon safari style game drives can be arranged.
