Botswana is situated between South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. It is often referred to as one of the wildest regions in Africa. It is a place of endless horizons, with an abundance of wildlife, unspoilt wilderness, splendid waterways and desert landscapes.
The climate is semi arid, therefore it is hot and dry for much of the year. the rainy season is in the summer months of November to March. A good time to visit Botswana is during the winter months of April to August, as the weather is generally enjoyable and the wildlife stays close to the water sources, making them easier to view.
The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world. Situated in north-western Botswan, it disappears into a maze of lagoons, channels and islands. This is an area that teems with wildlife, situated in the centre of this pristine wilderness area , is the Moremi Wildlife Reserve.
Botswana's Chobe is home to the biggest variety of wildlife in Botswana, however it is most famous for its huge concentration of elephants and its natural beauty alone is well worth the trip. Here you have an excellent chance of spotting lion, leopard, cheetah, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, crocodile and zebra.
Another fascinating area is the Savuti Marshes, a remnant of an inland lake that once covered Northern Botswana. It is home to an abundance of wildlife and is especially famous for the lion, hyeina and zebra migrations after the big rains.
The Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans are though to be the largest saltpans in the world. When dry, which is the most of the time they look like endless desolate white plains shimmering in the sun. however after a good rainfall they are transformed into a tableau of fluttering waterbirds a nd great herds of game.
