Sharing borders with Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Swaziland, Mozambique is a coastal country of spectacular beauty. The Eastern coastline offers nearly 2500km of beaches, coral reefs and islands, making it a favourite beach destinations with many visitors. The country's cultural heritage is a rich and diverse one, with distinct influences of Portuguese, African, Arab and European.
Since 1990 Mozambique has been developing as a tourist Mecca. The most popular areas for holidaymakers are the South Coast, particularly Maputo and the Islands of Benguera and Bazaruto.
Maputo, Mozmbique's capital is an intriguing place, where the mix of Eastern and Western influences are combined. The old town is a maze of narrow streets lined with many buildings dating back to before the turn of the Century. The town has many colourful markets, the most popular being the bustling marketplace at Costa del Sol.
Further north from Maputo lies the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is an idyllic area of ocean, sandy beaches, coral reefs and marine life. The Archipelago consist of 4 islands: Bazaruto, Benguers, Magaruque and Santa Carolina.
Pemba lies north of the country, situated at the mouth of a large bay. The coastline here is a uniquely beautiful place where bush and beach seem to meet.
