Namibia is a sunbaked land of rugged mountains, endless sand dunes and vast rocky plains. The country borders South Africa in the South and Botswana in the East.
Since the launch of direct flights to Windhoek with Air Namibia from London Gatwick there has never been a better time to visit Namibia either for your main holiday or as a stopover enroute to South Africa.
It is easy to see why Namibia is a destination to which visitors return frequently. It offers sunshine, a large variety of wildlife, amazing scenery and a rich selection of geological attractions.
One of Namibia's biggest attractions is the Namib-Naukluft National Park which covers approximately 50,000km. There are 4 sections in the park: Sossusvlei and Sessriem, Naukluft, Namib sections and Sandwich Harbour. A variety of desert landscapes are to be found here, from huge sand dunes and vast gravel plains, to majestic mountain ranges and deep canyons. Sossusvlei, one of the highlights of any visit to Namibia , is a huge clay-pan, enclosed by mighty sand dunes. These spectacular hills of sand are among the highest in the world.
Southern Namibia is home to the world's second largest canyon, the Fish River Canyon. Here the rocky landscape drops vertically by 550m, out of a flat arid plateau, creating a dramatic landscape of towering cliffs and colourful rock stratas - it is one of the most impressive natural sites in Africa.
The Skeleton Coast National Park reaches from the Ugab to the Kunene River. The popular coastal resort of Swakopmund has many buildings dating back to the turn of the century which represent the town's colonial past. Walvis Bay ia a principal port and Walvis Bay lagoon is one of Africa's most important wetlands attracting large flocks of flamingoes, pelicans and other water birds.
For many visitors, the Ethosha National Park is the Namibian destination. It is considered one of the greatest wildlife-viewing venues of the world as most of Africa's big game species are found here in large numbers.
